Negotiating Rent ??

Hi
We are off to rented after the house we were buying fell through ( Again )
It has been many years since I rented a house and am a bit out of touch with how exactly it all works.
I had assumed that the rental price quoted was pretty much fixed , but my wife informs me that she has heard that they are negotiable ?
Is this the case, we are looking at 2 bed houses/appartments at around the £1000 mark.
Any help as always much appreciated.
Cheers

I've found it varies with agent, but haven't had any luck myself.
We did see a house ourselves at the weekend and put an offer to the agent (who was open to the idea) but they couldn't get hold of the Landlord and we decided against it before a negotiation began.
The rental market is very boyant where we live, so nice properties get snapped up quickly so it's harder to get a reduction.0 -
Round where I live (SE commmutable to London) almost all rent is negotiable. In fact if property is on with an agent they factor a bit in to be knocked off. We negotiated a bit off our rent. At the prices you are looking at I would look to getting at least 50 quid off, perhaps more. It just depends on your area I suppose.0

Can confirm that East London ( bow/hackney/leyton) all negotiable, saving my mates about 100-150 a month. The savvy renter will look at properties that are ready to move in immieidately, as they are vacant- the LL is likely to want to fill the void asap. Quite a lot of voids also in Walthamstow, and Im hearing recently Clapham, where the rents my mates & mates-of-mates are paying is lower than Ive ever heard for Clapham. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
