Atlantic put our DD up AGAIN
We currently pay £75 per month DD which I think is ridiculous for 2 people in a 3 bed semi. They've just told me this morning that they are upping it to £100 PER MONTH as we are using more and have got into arrears!! Does this sound right - I mean we've not had the heating on for several months - how can it have gone up so much? Is there any way I can compare unit per unit against other suppliers? We send regular gas readings.
I've been on those price comparision sites who, through personal experience, promise the earth that they WILL be cheaper then 6 months later they've upped their DD and are more expensive than the one I've just swopped from. I've been stung with that before so don't want to be stung again.

I don't get diverted by any claims on a comparison site that they will guarantee me to save me money. Do they really do that? How can they guarantee to save someone money if that person is already on the best value tariff for them?- I mean we've not had the heating on for several months - how can it have gone up so much? Is there any way I can compare unit per unit against other suppliers? We send regular gas readings.

I just use them to perform the comparsion and see for myself whether any saving is achieved.
Comparing one supplier's unit charge against another is very misleading - you must consider how much they will end up charging you once all other elements of the tariff are included such as discounts."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Comparison websites are OK but only if you enter your annual consumption in kWHs.
You shouldn't phone them as they are only interested in getting you to switch so they get their commission.
Without doubt the internet tariffs will be the cheapest, e.g. E-ON, BG, etc. However you will have to clear your debt before you can switch.0 -
£75 is below average. £100 is about average (a touch below.) You are two people in a three bedroom - a pretty average situation. Why do you think your usage is lower than average?
Have you been with them 13 months? Check whether you have been credited with a one month rebate.
You can check other suppliers unit prices on sites like uSwitch - enter your details then on the results page click 'list all results' to list them on one page and then open the detailed info of the tariffs you want to look at in separate windows by fancy-clicking on tariff names (do a contextual menu 'open link in a separate window' click).0 -
Sounds to me like you're using them incorrectly, DD prices mean nothing at all.I've been on those price comparision sites who, through personal experience, promise the earth that they WILL be cheaper then 6 months later they've upped their DD and are more expensive than the one I've just swopped from.
