Copying to external hard drive

Options
I want to legally copy my dvd collection to my hard drive, so that I don't have to take them all with me as I am going to be working away, but can't find any advice on how to do this. Please help!

As I understand it, English law says you can't legally copy your DVD collection without permission of the copyright holder.

Assuming that you have their permission, you will need a free program called DVD Shrink. Google for it or go to https://www.download.com.

    DVD Decrypter is also helpful.

    Both are simple to use.

I believe you are able to copy a CD/DVD once as a backup,
the DVD Shrink program is correct though

Incorrect. AFAIK, this is the case in America, but not here in the UK.

Women priests. Great. Now there's priests of both sexes I don't listen to - Bill Hicks.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I'd use DVD Decrypter then AutoGK, but they can be a bit technical.

With the introduction of the EUCD, I think (correct me if I'm wrong) it's illegal to make any form of backup as you don't have the rights. It's also illegal to bypass any copy protection. Basically the consumer has lost all fair use rights.

Many will argue this unfair. DVDShrink is a very good app though. So is Gordian Knot/Auto GK for making DivX's/XviD's.

Hi I use dvddecryptyer.dvdfabdecrypter and dvdshrink all availible free. Also check https://www.afterdawn.com for useful advice. It really is nearly foolproof once you get the hang of it. Don't pay out for copies of these programs as they are freely available :T
You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.

Thanks, I guess I will be packing an extra suitcase for all the dvds then, seems very unfair to me!
