Borders closing 5 stores

Not a piece of news I take any pleasure in, but I've heard (pretty much first hand) that Borders are set to close 5 UK stores - inlcuding the flagship store on Oxford Street, Swindon and Llantrisant. Really sad news for all the staff (and I should say I don't work there) but I have been through it myself with MVC, Zavvi and a little independent CD shop, so I do know how it feels.

I think it's been on the way for a while now. I know Borders are a big US chain, but I've actually got a lot of time for them - nice staff, and I've picked up more than a few bargains there in the past!

I really hope they change their mind about Llantrisant.
I use them quite allot and *hate* going into Cardiff (Its my next nearest store).
I'm going to email the HQ and ask if there's any chance of them remaining open.

thats a shame i often use the oxford street borders, i can spend hours wandering about there, it goes hand in hand with my other favourite bookshop in islington closing.

I really hope that the Bournemouth store will stay - it's brilliant.

London Colney, near St Albans, has 50% of EVERYTHING except things like Starbucks and newspapers.

I like borders. I do think books can be a little bit too pricey though. I guess thats mostly down to publishers also?

Bournemouth should be safe for the time being, it is already next door to a large New Look.
