I understand that electrical components are covered for 1 year on a simple if it breaks take it back.
I also understand that anything is covered for 6 years. If you can prove that it not lasted as long as it should.
But... I have an item that broke within the first year (3 months) and every 3 months the same thing goes wrong.
Its a VAC. A part called the CHM breaks they send me a new CHM and I fit it. 2-3 months later the CHM will break, they send a new one and I fit it. This has been going on for some time. Also... the CHM they send me tend to change for time to time as they are aware of issues with it.
Thanks

No. Under the SOGA an item must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. If it fails before 6 months it is up to the retailer (not manufacturer) to prove you misused it. After 6 months it's up to you to prove it is faulty and not your fault.
There is nothing in the law for 1 year, but many retailers will cover it for this long.I also understand that anything is covered for 6 years. If you can prove that it not lasted as long as it should.
Strictly, yes. But you'll have trouble returning anything that's 5 years old under the act.But... I have an item that broke within the first year (3 months) and every 3 months the same thing goes wrong.

I think you should reject the entire item as it's obviously got an inherent fault.0 -
Thanks for clearing things up, i have had it for over a year (18 months)
I got it from Makro, does the fact that I got it from Makro and the age change anything?
I know that Makro has a different policy than normal shops, this is an extract from the website :
Makro is a business to business cash and carry wholesaler. Please note that when you purchase goods from Makro, Makro excludes (as far as permitted by law) any implied warranty, condition or other term as to quality and fitness for purpose. Instead, Makro gives you the following guarantees which apply in addition to Makro's terms and conditions:0 -
