Overseas Card Fraud - A&L Visa Debit

Options
Hi,

I went to take some cash out on Sunday and found I couldn't take anything out and that I was overdrawn by 87p!

Looked on my online banking and found a payment of 150 odd euros had been debited. Now I haven't been anywhere that euros are used and I certainly haven't bought anything online recently, let alone in euros.

I was away in Canada at the end of June and have had some transactions in CA$ which I obviously expected and match up with the reciepts I have from my purchase there, nothing however would have been in euros.

I phoned the bank and confirmed that I didn't recognise the transaction and the guy agreed to pass it to the fraud department who are going to have a look and get back to me in the next 7 days.

Has anyone had this happen to them before? I've found some information on the Visa Debit Chargeback scheme but never had to use it before?

Kind of annoyed about it as when in Canada I had to jump through hoops to be able to use my card. Had to hold on the phone for ages and then answer loads of questions including what country are you using the card in, when do you return home before I could use my card in Canada. Then ages after I have returned a transaction in euros seems to pass through with no question!

I have paid in some money to stop my account being overdrawn but that money was my petrol money to last until I get paid again!

If anyone has any experience or tips about this sort of thing, please let me know!

Thanks.

I had something like this with my barclays account last year, some how there was a transaction for 100 quid odd (cant remember the amount) in german currancy

i disputed, my card was stopped and within 2 days i had a letter from the fraud department, had to fill out details of the fraud, the fact i didnt make the transaction and mark it as "fraud" within a week or so the money was back in my account, so on this rare occasion i can only praise them on that.

Now when i was 18 (11 years ago) i was in newquay (200 miles from my home) and there were some transactions from my debit card in southampton around 5 mins after i used a cash point in newquay (so 200 miles appart) i was with A&L i reported it then, and still to this date i didnt get my money back as they were adiment i made the transaction, now because the withdrawed amount put me overdrawn and i refused to pay it back as it was quite clearly fraud (unless i used a beam me up scotty device to teleport me 200 miles in 5 mins) they also closed the account and defaulted me on the overdrawn amount jolly nice of them !

I cant speak for how they operate now there part of the santander grp i dont know, but good luck..

if there like barclays you will have your money back soon.
