Hi,
Just curious as to what would happen if i never paid back any of my debt? i use HSBC as my current account but i owe lloyds bank nearly £4k and a loan provider £3k, i cant afford to pay back any money atm with loss of job. I have moved address but still have my post going to my old address (moms house). I have been given an oppourtunity to go and work abroad permanently, if i was to up sticks and move and not pay anythink back to Lloyds or my loan provider, what would happen?? would they even try to find me??
Just curious at this stage!
Thanks for looking

I think you would be very foolish.
If you effectively run away from your debts, you could be taken to court in your absence and end up financially a lot worse off.
It is much harder to take somebody to court if they are communicating and offering to pay token amounts.
Am sure others will be in better positions to advise you, but my suggestion would be to NOT run off and leave your debts as in the long run, it will cause you more difficulties, but to communicate with the companies involved and actively look to reducing them.
There are a lot of people and threads on here that will give you advice as to how to end up debt free.0 -

Cheers, its just at the moment all i have coming in in jobseekers(£50)p/week and have my partner and son to support, i cant find no work at all here in Birmingham the jobcentre have also messed up her claim for maternity/income support or even JSA. she has now gone 9 weeks with no money from them and only my JSA for food and bills, it really starting to get us down now. A close family friend has offered us an option to move away where he can give me a job and sort out accomodation.
I know its running away from the debt, but i need to provide for my family!

Running away would be a big mistake - I live in Birmingham and know that the job situation here is hell. Your partner needs to go back to the jobcentre and say that she has been unable to support herself for the past 9 weeks, see if you can get a hardship loan - she needs to badger them really, go and sit in the jobcentre if she has to until they sort something out. Make sure you are getting everything that you are entitled to - e.g housing and council tax benefits etc.
I think that you need to contact CCCS or one of the other debt charities for help as they have all sorts of letters you can write to people offering them token payments - better to do this than run away and make the situation even worse.

Never coming back again? Might get away with it.
Coming back at some point in the rest of your life? Probably won't get away with it. Big chance to take.0 -
You'd also need to make sure there are no reciprocal legal agreements in place with regards to civil debt recovery in your intended destination country. You could run and find yourself just as bad off, if not worse once all charges have been added.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

How would the creditors ever be able to find me even if i did come back? if all ours bills and stuff was in my partners name? i would love to pay it off but lloyds are not very helpfull when i explained my situation, i know they want there money but i have got to feed mouths first!

Another thought was if my partner took out a loan (somehow) and paid off my debts and move country, if we get married there and she takes my name and if we do come back would they reconise who she is?0
