Cowboys have robbed my Dad

Options
Roofing works carried out on my 81yr old fathers house, Without going into detail (believe me i dont need too) £1400 to fix a leak in the garage roof last week & put some felt on the Garden shed, Fortunatley it rained on Saturday evening so i was able to film the result which was TWICE as bad as the original leak...

The Most disturbing aspect is the way they drove him to the Bank & one was kind enough to "Escort" him in too, cash, with a rough hand written reciept, I have now established who they are....Needless to say i dont want them with a mile of the house & they have quite obviously taken the pxxs..

What should my next step be... Thanks in advance ..

if they have done a shoddy job then assertain what they have or have not done

write to them and detail what oyu expeect them to do about it - give them 10 days to respond and then you can issue court proceedsing as well as involve trading standards/ local council

Thanks, "Shoddy" is a understatement believe me, I can only conclude that i want a Financial settlement from them, I cant possibly offer them the option to come back again, but quite how much is something i will have to determine, possibly by getting someone else to quote for the works they have done... Just out of curiosity when i call the 0800 number & ask for an address, what would happen if the refused to give me one ? All i have thus far is a number name & rough location, Worcester ..

Contact your local trading standards with the information that you have.

Do you think the work was carried out by "travellers"? I won't use the term gypsies, as these people are Irish tinkers, not Roma folk. I know of an almost identical case where an old lady was frog-marched in her slippers to the building society. The people involved on that occasion are now in prison. They were on a local site (illegal I think) and were menacing the elderly in the vicinity. It could explain why when you ring the 0800 number (listed as "head office" on their vans) you can't get any joy. Please be very careful. These people are as hard as nails and the police are basically frightened of them. Get everything in place before you decide to proceed. Tackling them on your own could be very dangerous.

The police will probably offer them jobs as Police Officers or PCSOs in order to meet some Diverse Absurdity quota/target.

I wonder what it is about getting older that leaves you like this? :(.

Certainly my Mum is as shrewd as they come yet now in her late 60's have had to warn her off spending the best part of £1,000 to line the pipes to fix a 'leak' when in the end we just needed a plumber and literally £20 worth of work doing!

And the work that was going to get done would not have solved the problem as the leak was inside the house!

An update, I have spoken to the "Boss" of this firm, I was a bit too stressed to establish the link between him..as the Boss.. & the guys who did the "Job" , however he got the message & was very much on the defensive, claiming that one of the two no longer works there, & is now going to write to me explaining what he intends to do befor any further "Repair" is done, I will then run this past a builder friend who will pass opinion, but to be fair I just want a refund now, time will tell ..

However my sister who lives in Germany found out about this off my brother & has now asked the police to visit dad this afternoon, in some ways ime glad, as the Gardener who informed this firm about the need of a roof repair in the first place will be there & will no doubt inform them that police are involved, .. But thanks for your advice, when you have (thankfully) never been involved in an issue of this nature befor, it can be a tad difficult to know what to do next ..

Sack the gardener - perhaps he got a 'back-hander' from these roofers for finding their next 'customer'.

Agreed, if the gardener noticed that the work needed doing he should have told the OP's Dad about it not gone to this cowboy firm. OP, maybe the gardener is fleecing your Dad as well?
