My partner was refunded for a concert he recently went to, To claim the money back he had to send his tickets back which we did he has now received a cheque from them for £80 however they have incorrectly spelt his surname LYNN instead of LYMM do you think we should still be able to cash this as i am stuggling to find details to send it back to the company (sjm) to correct, along with the cheque was a cover not which simply said no further correspondence would be actioned upon ? does this mean that the cheque is of no good ?

If this was the Oasis concert refund i know they were hoping most people would NOT cash the cheques and keep them as souveniers as they are signed by Noel and Liam so could this be a way of ensuring it isn't cashed?
There must be a contact phone no for SJM somewhere try phoning them.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
Depends on the people checking, if it gets bounced or whatever you can request the cheque back and send it back to the company and ask for a rewrite.0

9 times out of 10 it won't be noticed, esp with that sort of misspelling. Simplest way is to bank it and see.0

I'd bank it too. Doubtful it will be looked at very closely due to the amount of cheques that pass through. If it gets passed the initial stage it should be fine.
Try an automated machine?I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

If the bank cashier doesn't notice when you pay it in (highly likely) then it's not going to be picked up later0

Hi
Thank you very much everybody and yes it was the oasis concert and i did notice that it had being signed by them, But i can not seem to find a number or very much information about SJM as a company anywhere . I will take it to the bank and try i was not aware that if it bounced that i could request to have it back. Once again thankyou0 -
It depends on the answer as to whether you can have the cheque back. If it is payment countermaned or refer to drawer then your bank will return it to you for your to seek alternative arrangements for refund ie another cq or cash.
If the cheque is returned refer to drawer please represent then it will go back through the clearing/banking system for further representation and hopefully you will get your funds.
As to whether the bank will accept the cheque with the wrong spelling of the name depends on the cashier and whether the cheque has been crossed account payee only (which most are these days).
The automated service seems a good idea but the bank clerk may have time to scrutinise your cheque and send it back to you......
Hope this helps

I've had cheques made out to me with my surname spelt incorrectly. I took them in branch and queried it and she said there wouldn't be a problem - just go in and query it.
I was told the only time it probably wouldn't be cashed is if it was suspicious - i.e a large amount made out to a name not similar to yours.0 -
Use the cheque deposit facility at the ATMs and it should sail through....0

I recently had a cheque from a utility company with my surname spelt "Thorpe" rather than "Thorp". It still cleared.
Given the nature of my surname, this is an occasional problem but I've never had a problem banking a cheque spelt wrong0
