Firstly apologies if the wrong area to post, have been up and down the forums and not sure where to put so please move if needed..
I am the neighbourhood co-ordinator for our rd and all has been quiet for weeks since i started doing it! this morning i got an email from one of the neighours with 2 probs and not sure r.e one of them. They are rented and we are SO so have rung the housing ppl about the first one as we have a drive but think i know who she is talking about!.
First prob is the allocated parking and people not using it, have rung the HA as i said to find out rules on this as there are some.
Second prob is bins, they say that their bins are being filled up and are not sure what to do about it also that one neighbour lets theirs overflow loads etc..i have replied saying i will look into it but i am thinking it is a council problem? what would you do..we are lucky and have a garage and car port and can put ours away if we had a prob but am not sure they can, have asked them to let me know a bit more but we have no probs so not sure what's the best route tbh?
Thanks

What is a 'neighbourhood co-ordinator'? What is the problem related to parking?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Sorry, I don't really understand the parking problem. They're saying people have allocated parking, but are not using it. Where are these people parking then?? So long as they're not blocking someone in, and not on someone else's property, then legally people can park where they like, and can street park even if they have allocated parking.
As for the bins, they need to contact the council, as the neighbour with over-flowing bin obviously needs a bigger one!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Surely the 1st response of any co-ordinator for anything is to ask whoever sent the email what they have done about the problem....and then tell the emailer to go fix it...
Cheers!

Is your role part of a residents association who work together as a group?
I'd be inclined to step away from a role where people bring their problems to you rather than the parties who they should speak to.
If people are affected by others who are mis-parking their cars or not getting disposing of their rubbish correctly, they should speak to them first and then escalate this to the relevant organisation such the housing association or council.
I don't envy your role as you'll end up being sucked into stuff that residents should be dealing with themselves and a focus for gripes, nay even held responsible for stuff. Don't do any hand-holding for them.
I once tried to get owners in a tenement in Scotland to be more active in managing the repairs and cleaning in the common areas which is a legal obligation there (this property management is known as 'self-factoring'). We had plenty of money in the fund and 14 adults in the property but I struggled to get any volunteers. Instead, I would come home from a day at work to find notes popped through my door telling me to fix stuff. Owners, including those who hadn't lifted a finger or hadn't paid towards the upkeep or were responsible for the damage would actually come to my door to have a go at me.0 -
Hi, a neighbourhood co-ordinator is someone who trys to help sor problems out between neighbours as far as im aware! I did ask on here a long while back as was kind of rail roaded into the position and tbh wasn't sure..i got no replies though!!
The issue with the parking i am not absolutely sure on at the mo, i am guessing people like myself with a drive are not using their drives? we have SO houses one side and then rented opposite and have different houses..i am guessing though but have asked the to elaborate on it. I have also rung the HA and am awaiting a call back.
No there is no group as such like i said no one has come to me with any issies in ages since it started actually so havent worried too much..again i can see the majority of the probs being parking which is daft as we have lots of room and allocated parking for most. The rubbish is prob the council tbh but again have asked them to elaberate on it.
Thanks for the replies0 -

As other have said, why get drawn into other people's disputes?
You have no obligation to be neighbourhood coordinator, who decided you should be one, and with what authoirty are they acting?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Gabyjane who 'employed' you as neighbourhood co-ordinator - the housing association, the council, the resident's association? Who decided your road needed a neighbourhood co-ordinator and who wrote the 'job description'? You need to know what your role entails and you need to know who your points of contact are - if you want to get into this you could ask for training, the whole experience is great CV material.
Secondly bins. The council will not (should not) want to give your neighbour another bin as they have recycling targets to meet. You need to find out who the person with overflowing bins is and then find out if (a) they have all the correct recycling bins and (b) know what goes where and which day the collections are. You should be able to ask the Recycling Department at the council to do a leaflet drop in your street.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Thanks for the replys.
Ok firstly i am confused with all the questions r.e how i got to become a co-ordinator, why i do it etc etc..it is irrelevant and doesn't really matter the fact is i am happy to do it and wanted some advice.
I have rung the HA and think i have most of it sorted it all now though so thanks!0 -
But the advice depends on who appointed you and how you became coordinator.~~~
