I have never bought anything off Ebay of high value before and have never used my paypal account. The seller has 100% feedback. Whats the best way of paying for this item (if i win)? Is it best to topup my account (nothing in it at the moment) or can i pay with a credit card?

If the seller offers direct credit card payment then pay that way. If not add your credit card to your paypal and make sure when you pay that you opt to use funds drawn from your credit card, it will default to bank details first.
If you have funds in your paypal account already you need to withdraw them.
Other than that remember the basics:
Pay via the invoice you get from ebay, do not pay to a different email address or 'off ebay' in any way. Read the auction carefully, are you getting exactly what you want, there isn't any dodgy terms hidden away like ''as new' (when title says new) or anything at all like that. Is the correct postal service used, I don't trust sellers who don't know what they are doing, phones over £39 must be sent special. Check the seller feedback carefully, ignore buying feedback. Do they sell high end goods, has the account been used normally recently, is the auction style for the phone the same as previous auctions.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Pay with paypal as you will have full buyer protection, So either your registered card with them as the funding source. Basically whatever you have as primary funding source in the account. (though credit card is best)
Make sure you check the seller out fully. Dont just accept the 100% feedback figure. Check them our here. Also read the feedback that has been left for them as a seller. Also read what they have left for others. Also have a look at what they have sold recently.
A little bit of Paranoia now can save you a lot of hassle in the long run0 -

In the 10s, 100s or the 1000s?
Do they have a history of selling, or is it all for buying? My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Can't you just click the paypal link to pay without having to register or login to your existing paypal account. I'm sure I've paid for things before with a credit card without logging into to paypal dont think you actually need an account to pay via paypal0
