Credit Card Statements only backdate a Year

Hi there

I asked my credit card company for data going back six years but they only sent back 12 months. Im wondering whether this is a ploy by them to limit their claim costs. They reckon they only hold 12 months statements. Please advise - thanks.

They must surely be able to reproduce a list of the charges, which is what you really want.
They have one or two computer systems, I'm sure.
Ask for charges, not for statements.
Also, isn't there some kind of law whereby they have to keep details for 6 or 7 years? Not sure as I'm by no means a financial authority, but I was a director and my company had to retain all documents for this period.

Write to them again and state that there is no timescales under the data protection act but there has been advice going back over 30 years stating 6 years. Their response is inadequate so either they comply or you will make a complaint to the Information Commissioners Office. Who did you deal with? Was it phone or in writing? AND you wouldn't have that 12 months in writing would you(if not purleease ask for it writing cos it would be even better)?
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009
