royal mail will compensate upto 100x the value of a first class stamp: if you send something recorded which is valued at £50 they will pay comp of max £39 + postage the only time they will not pay if you claim more than the max cover is on consequential loss (you claim £600 - cover only £500) this then invalidates your claim.
