RAC car insurance

Has anyone used RAC car insurance? It seems to be another arm of Norwich Union as their cover is identical. However they are cheaper than NU direct and at the moment the overall cheapest for my son.

I've been with them for 3 years as their comprehensive plan comes 'free' with my car insurance. I've called them out about 5 times and overall had good service. I once waited well over an hour and complained about this on the feedback card. Since then, they've got to me quicker! I have to say that I've found the service, courtesy, 'going the extra mile' (ha ha) depended upon who the RAC patrol man was at the time but then I suppose this would be the same for any breakdown service. :)

I think the comprehensive breakdown plan would be about £38 extra - how was yours "free"? At the moment my son is with Norwich Union Rescue which seems to be essentially the same thing. It's still got 6 months to run.
  • Hi. It was/is free through Budget Insurance.

I think we've been talking at cross purposes.

I was looking at CAR INSURANCE through RAC, not breakdown insurance.

NU own RAC so it would be realistic to expect similar service. I am not too sure if the call centres are the same though as I think the RAC centres have not (yet?) been merged with the NU call centres.

I think with NU is pure luck whether you get their UK call centre or India. Certainly with their breakdown cover it's always India I seem to get through to.

It looks likely that we'll go with them unless something else suddenly turns up. They were certainly the cheapest with Confused.com.
