Watch battery waste of money

I have a casio digital watch that cost £20-25 about 8 years ago. The battery has gone is better to get a new watch or replace the battery?

jewellers £5.00

My last one from the market oasted me at least 5 years.

Well - I know where to go for future battery changes then...ie not the jewellers shop where I bought the watch in the first place......

I thought it was normal for the battery to need changing about once a year and only went to a market stall for the last battery change as I thought "You're taking the michael...there must of been something wrong with the last battery - it only lasted a matter of months...hmmm....I wonder....:cool::rolleyes:" - hence suspecting summat was up and using the market instead.

Guess that means "summat was up" every time then...:cool:....as it seems my battery should be lasting at least 5 years according to you all......

Casios Lithium Batterys last for at least 4 years- ive got several in a draw somewhere. if youve had a Casio for 8 years your doing well as its usually the strap, or the lugs holding the strap that break rendering the watch useless. The glass on Casios is very tough as well their quite hard to scratch. Just got a new one from Argos for £15.
I dont think the batterys sold by boot sales/market stalls are any good. but worth a punt for £1.50.

Just been and checked what make my watch is - its a Rotary one. Cant recall the price level - other than somewheres between £100-£200 YEARS ago...

Does that make any difference as to how long the battery would last for?

I got a load of batterys like that from Home Bargains, on a card with cellophane over. It was about 80p for about a dozen batteries.

Poundland do a whole sheet of different sized batteries - 30 batteries in total from AG1 - AG13. My watch takes AG3s and I've changed it a couple of times - they may not last as long as the 'legit' makes, but they work out as pennies each. (and it's so handy having the other sizes for when electronic toys go phut!!)

One thing I forgot to mention. The jewellers say that they can not change it without making non water proof so I need to find a specialist casio dealer.

I have a very similar Rotary watch which must be around 15 yrs old. I have only ever had batteries from my local cobblers (key cutter) costing £2 ish and they always last around 4 yrs.

Depends how waterproof you need it to be - I change the batteries in my ProTrek (£6** v £30 at a Casio dealer) and haven't had a water problem yet. Is it actually marked as waterproof or water resistant (if the former, do you wear it when scuba diving?).

Most Casios have a sealing ring - you need to be a bit careful when removing and replacing, and you need to reset some of them after a battery change, but that's about it.

**I use the Poundland batteries (mentioned earlier) in a couple of other watches, but none of them fit the ProTrek, so I have to stump up £6 for four every 4 or 5 years (just so's I don't lose my MSE creds...)
