Is my sky+ box broken ?

Just hit the pause button whilst I had my tea and returned to find a blue screen and a flickering red button on the sky box. Have checked the cables and switched the box off for 5 mins like those kind people at sky said. They basically say that an engineer would need to come out and as it is 18mts old it would cost me 65 notes. Is there anything else I can try before I commit to this ?

Hi,
check out this thread on the DigitalSpy forum:

In my experience a £65 engineer visit is never required.0 -
When you un plugged it did you take out the viewing card and wipe it this sometimes works with my Sky Plus also mine sometimes will not come on at all so I just sit there pressing the on off button for ages and it seems to do the trick although sometimes it cames back on quicker than others. Its worth a try I think. Best of luck.0

Don't pay for an engineer I've had to have my sky plus box replaced three times and refuse to pay just say fine no problem I'll go to Virgin, (dont even know if its available in my area) as they will fix equipment while have contract with them and sky will send someone out for free.
Just as a quick question have you done a reset or just turned the box off for 5 mins??
:rolleyes:;):cool::o:rolleyes:;):o:o:cool:0 -
1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the
viewing card.
2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox –
NOT ON THE REMOTE – turn the mains power on.
3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a
"UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will
be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this
can appear as a half screen.
4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download
and install. The box will restart when the process is
complete.
5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for
ITV-1.
7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.
How to reset incase you haven't although this will delete all your programme links and recorded programmes etc I believe so be warned in advance
