Contribution Based Job Seekers Allowance (JSA)

Just to let you all know that I phoned the Jobcentre this morning to ask the question about whether or not I really needed to provide evidence of savings and the telephonist said yes. I queried this again and asked to speak to the Advisor which I did so. We came to the conclusion that there may be two reasons why I was asked on the phone for my financial details; firstly the system said I wanted to claim housing benefit even though I did say that I did not want to claim but would like to have known my entitlement (my mistake) and secondly as the system could not cope without an exact figure on my total savings (as I wouldn't give it) it came up with a question mark which automatically meant that they requested details of statements etc. The Advisor agreed verbally that I do NOT have to provide any financial evidence but we both understood why this was asked for originally. She told me to advise the first person at lunchtime today (some kind of financial advisor) that I do not wish to claim housing benefit and then they would not ask for my statements. I said "Are you sure?" She said she would speak to them before I turned up. Therefore I have finally got somewhere and now know I do not have to show my private financial details which I knew to be the case but couldn't work out why they kept asking. In summary, if you want to claim CONTRIBUTION Based JSA ONLY you should NOT have to provide bank statements, savings information etc. If you want to claim Contribution Based JSA PLUS anything else then it is likely you will be asked for such information. Thanks all. Resolved now I hope.0

Well, you got there and that is the main thing, the first person as I know the process is whats known as a claims assessor and they deal with checking forms/applications to make sure there is at least enough evidence there to get working on and that all questions have been answered.
Hopefully it is as straight forward as you have been advised it will be.0 -
Sorted. Did not have to provide financials. Thanks all very much.0
