What's been going on here? Strange eBay item history

Can anyone guess what has happened on eBay item# 110412816862 ?

Here's the history that I can see:

11-Jul-09 16:18:46 BST - item listed as BIN/BO (amount unknown)
11-Jul-09 17:16:55 BST - Bidder 1 makes BO of £274.99
11-Jul-09 21:17:57 BST - BIN price revised (amount unknown)
12-Jul-09 09:05:25 BST - BIN price revised - now £125.00
12-Jul-09 13:34:07 BST - Bidder 2 makes BO of £124.99
12-Jul-09 16:33:36 BST - seller ends listing early / item is no longer available

Hmm, the cynic in me thinks that bidder 1 has been sold it outside ebay so the seller doesnt have to pay fees. But then again why change to a lower buy it now price? Now Im, intrigued aswell!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it ended up being sold off ebay, but I can't make any sense of the history.

Why did the buyer reduce the BIN price to well below what had already been offered?

Why did Bidder 2 offer 1p less than the BIN price at the time?

I don't know, but I suspect the original asking price was £275.00.
If so, why would bidders offer 1p less?
The only reason I can guess is so that they can message the seller (sometimes ebay restricts messages between non-transactional ebayers) and request an off ebay sale.
But that doesn't explain the later price reduction on ebay.

the only explanation I can think (& this is a long shot) is that the seller wasnt sure how to end the listing so reduced the price & then found out how to end it?
No, that just doesnt make sense - oh Premier why did you have to open a can of worms, I want to know what happened!

    The saga continues:

17-Jul-09 18:05:39 BST Item is relisted under item# 110414899634 as an auction item with starting price of 99p (and there was a BIN, but thats now gone due to bids being received)

and I suspect the current highest bidder (Bidder 4) is the same account as that which made the Best Offer of £274.99 on 11-Jul-09 17:16:55 BST under item# 110412816862

... and I also discovered the item was previously listed under item # 110412774929 with a BIN @ £275.00 and an auction starting at 99p but with a reserve. That listing only lasted about 2.5 hours before the seller cancelled it.

Talking of people wasting money, here's another example coincidently regarding a steam engine.

    15-Jul-09 18:13:59 BST BO of £100.00 declined
16-Jul-09 14:04:48 BST Seller ended the listing

    Item# 320399525211
16-Jul-09 14:04:47 BST Seller relisted item in auction format - 99p start

This listing ended with a winning bid of £46.00
