problem with nat west

Hi there need some advice on this because im not sure where I stand.
Firstly this is the situation on our accounts with natwest
ME
1. £203.00 in joint account with husband
2. -£34.00 in my own PERSONAL account
MY HUSBAND
1. £203.00 in joint account with me
2. £20.00 in his own PERSONAL account
3. £20.00 in his own buisness account
So after trying to buy something yesterday in b&q on my joint account debit card I was declined and they took my card off me because the bank told them too.
Came home phoned natwest spoke to a rude man who said this happend because my personal account was £34 overdrawn so both my accounts were suspended and debit cards stopped.so he put me on hold and I explained this to my husband who went onto online banking and transfered the £203.00 into his OWN PERSONAL ACCOUNT because obviously we need money. he came back to phone and said oh your accounts show zero so I explained hubby transfered money cause we needed it.
Lastnight hubby went to buy something online his card was declined,we again phone natwest banking told all his accounts were suspended and cards stopped...(about 10 mins after my first phonecall this had been stopped) she said there were not notes to say why and it shouldnt have happend and she said sorry so many times and said well we cant do nothing because customer collections are closed until monday and we might have to give you some sort of compensation for this.
So tommorow we are going to local branch,Can they legally do this? I mean stop my husbands personal accounts because of a £34 debt I owe them from my own personal account??
We have no money what so ever!! we have over £300 between us and cant access any of it,The £60.00 in my husbands account is for bills and is nothing to do with my debt to them.We are about to run out of electric because we have no money and we have 4 kids to feed etc!!
Are they in the right to do this???
Fine they could have just suspended my accounts but why his too when Im not anything to do with theese accounts? its only £34 so why not let us have any of our £300?

Thats why you don't have joint accounts.... to stop this from happening....
Only thing I can think of is your overdrawn account was made up via the joint account, which you then transferred all monies over to husband which is making the joint account overdrawn by the £34 so they have stopped the husbands accounts because of the joint account.0 -

Maybe if you have had lots of bounced d/d's on sole account as it was overdrawn and ran up a lot of charges that haven't been applied to the account yet?0

Well see I got bank charges for just one time a few weeks ago that I had a direct debit which because of the weekend came out 2 days earlier and money wasnt in my account to cover it so the bank charged me for it.
Had nat west said to me yesterday okay we will transfer £34.00 from your joint account into your personal account to clear it then fine I would have been fine with that.
It comes accross to me and also the nice lady in natwest that the man I spoke with was angry for A. me getting mad then hanging up on him and B. because my husband was so fast in transferring it out that he THEN blocked husbands accounts for it.
The nat west lady herself said she was issuing a complaint against him and the fact my husbands accounts had been suspended and we could get compensation for it because its nothing to do with my husband at all and now we have no money at all.
The £200.00 was child tax credits which is meant for our children which I cant touch at all.0 -
Does anyone know if they can actually suspend my husbands own account?0

I know how you feel they have done the same thing to me this weekend, and like you I have a child to provide for and he's disabled. When i called Natwest on Saturday they said that they would have to authorise me to have money (doesnt help when it's a saturday).
All this suspending my account happened a fortnight after making a complaint to the FOS about Natwest, they did this to me about 2 months ago now it's happened again and like you it's because I have 2 accounts with them. I also have to agree with you that some of the people that answer the phones have a stick so far up their bottoms you would think it's their money.
Hope that you get something sorted soon, I've been trying for 8 months and they still arent listening
Good Luck
