Dug Out My Old Laptop

... which runs windows 98. It's only for my daughter to use for the internet but I'm finding it is running really slow. I've removed programs that will never be used etc but it is still running slow (the mouse is sticking, the keyboard is half asleep and programs take ages to open). There isn't a great deal on it.
C drive has free space 2.25gb out of 3.39gb.

Is there anything I can do to speed it up?

I'd suggest buying more RAM but if the processor is very slow you might not see a great improvement.

It never did this when I used it all the time and nothing has changed so was wondering if there was a free program I could run on it to make things better

is it patched with windowupdate, and protected against viruses, spyware etc. What spec is the PC, (processor, ram)?

you can use this to help determine what is hogging the PC

Oh no, THOSE diffivult to answer questions again!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I took the bull by the horns and just wiped the lot and started again and now it's like lightning (well fast anyway)

so thanks for your help and I'm soooooooooooooo glad I don't have to answer those questions (lol) !!!!!!!

I'd patch it with https://www.windowsupdate.com while you can, as 98 support is being dropped soon, and put AV, anti-spyware on if you haven't already.
