    Hi there

I know you are looking for a quick fix for now for your larvae problem but rather than putting in just goldfish there is another fish which I believe is called Golden Orb which feeds of the surface of the water and is very successful at eating mosquito larvae. Any fish show will sell this fish. Good Luck

Your goldfish should hoover them up pretty quickly, and if you add anything to kill the mosquitoes won't it harm the fish as well? The mosquitos have to pupate before they emerge - they turn from wriggly larvae to dark comma shapes, so you could scoop out any you see (they will bob about at the surface to breathe)

I used to use an old sieve to scoop them out. Although once the fish get going you probably won't notice them so much.
  • Thanks for the advice to date - were i to go for an anti mosquito treatment, does anyone know a uk supplier of something like Mosquito Bits - ive looked online and can only find US suppliers so far.

I had a quick Google, and the active ingredient you're looking for is Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis - so basically a bacteria which will bump off your mozzies.
This includes various trade names for it:

and you're able to buy it in the UK as VectoBac.

Think you mean a Golden Orfe, they're beautiful. Lovely pale pinky orange colour. What they are, though, is very fast. Had a couple of small ones in a very large tank with carp, had to rehome them. They grow fast and in a pond they can leap out as they need lots of room.
