B&Q kitchens

Hi,
Has anyone else had a kitchen fitted by B&Q and been completely dissatisfied with the fitting and service? We are now entering week 9 of a 3 day kitchen fit. So far the plumbing under the sink has leaked 3 times soaking the floor underneath and delaying our tiles from being layed, panels have been chipped and scuffed, door handles have snapped off, damage to cupboard doors, taps have broken twice, worktop was chipped during fitting, silicone filler peeling off. The service has been appalling, right from ordering (they lost our order) to the present time, even though we have phoned the installations team and complained about the shoddy service, products, workmen never turn up when they say they will, deliveries don't turn up on time, no one ever gets back to us... Manager from the installations team came out and did a site visit (didn't show up for the first appointment, didn't phone to say he wasn't coming then phoned another day to arrange to come out that afternoon between 2 and 5 and finally showed up at 6pm after repeated phone calls to the office to find out if he was actually going to appear and just as I was serving dinner ) and has made note of all our complaints, we have received a delivery of replacement parts but as yet no word of getting them fitted. We are so frustrated by this. Anyone else been in a similar situation and how did you resolve it? We don't know what steps to take next as our complaints and phonecalls to the installations team seem to be falling on deaf ears.

I havent been in your position. although I have read on here that B&Q fitting is really poor, hang around a bit im sure youl find someone as disatisfied as you! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Unfortunately, B&Q are renowned as much for their poor quality installation service as they are for their poor quality kitchens.
The only thing I can suggest is write to their head office, detailing all the problems you have encountered (inc. missed appointments etc) and ask them how they will compensate you. I doubt you will get much, but at least you should get something...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Thanks, I'm sure the 'compensation' would be vouchers to spend in store - I'm boycotting the place!0

That sounds about right for B&Q. After reading all the problems people have had on here I'd never use any national company without doing a search first.0

I would write to them (recorded delivery) and also CC a copy to headquarters (and make it clear on the letter that it's been sent ot HQ too), stating firstly all the problems you've had, and secondly that they have 14 days until <insert date> to resolve all issues listed (list all things you want fixing). If they fail to rectify all issues within this time frame, you will be getting quotes from a local builder to rectify the problem, and seeking costs through the small claims court to cover the expense.
ALWAYS correspond in writing.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I managed to board out an entire loft space with faulty B&Q kitchen doors that I rejected.. In the end I insisted the manager of the store come out to the house and inspect the kitchen for himself, only then did i finally get any satisfaction out of them... although I didnt have the kitchen fitted by B&Q the main fault was with the product itself, in the end we got nearly half the cost of the kitchen back from the manufacturer.. still took ages and for about 2 months had no doors on the units, which was interesting with 2 small kids and a puppy in the house0

A friend of a friend was left without a kitchen for months by B&Q, in fact she had a Facebook group about it (do a search!).... not sure if it ever got sorted out actually!

The best solid cabinets would be howdens who i use all the time with no problems.
I would hardly say howdens are "the best" for carcases, although I would say, that for the price, they are good. Howdens use a medium density MFC for their carcases, oppsosed to a low density at B&Q. However, most independents tend to use a high density MFC, which gives a greater load bearing...Next time you are in b+q have a look at the granite underneath it aint even 30mm thick its chip board underneath,
That's because it isn't granite. It's speedstone, and this is reflected in the price. They supply this as they know their carcases aren't designed to support granite...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

YES BUT THEY SELL IT TO PEOPLE WHO DON,T KNOW THE DIFFERNCE AND THE CUSTOMERS THINK THEY HAVE GRANITE,AND WHAT THEY CHARGE FOR IT, THEY SHOULD HAVE GRANITE.
B&Q for it sins doesn't miss advertise for this products it clearly advertised as not being solid granite its clearly advertised as a cheaper way to have granite work tops.0
