I've been saving up for a lovely bike for months now, but your stories are putting me off

I used (well still use) a fixed wheel for riding around towns. I've always wanted to see someone steal it and get the shock of there lives when they can't freewheel!:T0 -
Wow...very, very rare scenario.
I think going through eBay wouldn't help as it's such a rare/odd situation and eBay's customer service has always been notorious on cases like this.
I'd try to win the bid and 'collect' the bike and take it back, by force if nessecary, or ask sellers for the thiefs address, explaining to them the scenario.
Either way, I'd do my best to get it back.0 -
Times have changed.
When I was a student (many years ago I must admit), my boyfriend had his bike stolen. When he reported it to the police the sergeant told him to look out for it in the town and if he saw anyone riding it to knock them off it an steal it back.
Great advice, I cannot see the police saying that these days though!0 -

I could/(still can!!) open every other lock without fail, within a minute or half, and making little or no noise whatsoever, and most of them using a piece of equipment that could easily fit in a sleeve of any jacket.
When I raced mountain bikes, I didn't bother with a lock - I simply took the bike in to shops with me! If I was going somewhere I needed to leave a bike unattended, I had a £20 rat-bike with no brakes, one gear and covered in rust.
Until it was nicked from outside the university nightclub.
A minute and a half is slow...
I could open most d locks with a pen in about 20 seconds0 -
