They did have a BBQ not long ago (in the garden, with the filthy plants all around) :rotfl:

I think it's a case of too much education rather than not enough.

As it happens they are ill quite often so it may well be some nonsense instilled by parents which has led to their opinions.

You know what they say, that you can be very highly educated and very clever but still have no common sense.

People worry too much about these things, I would tell them that if they dont feel comfortable eating food from your kitchen then they are welcome not to but stop going on about it because you have no intention of moving them!

I've worked as a microbiologist for 7 years and the rules of the lab dont come home with me. I only worry about the important stuff like raw meat, and hand washing where appropriate. My kitchen windowsills are full of herbs, chillis and peppers!

A very practical microbiologist (specialising in hospitals) I knew had a favourite saying that if the floors of every hospital had an inch of soil we wouldnt have all these problems with superbugs.
  • Well you obviously aren't dead yet so it can't be that bad for you.

If it kills you be sure to let us know and then we can all move the plants off our kitchen windowsills.

I'd better get my will updated then, "Send Waggle Dancer copy of post mortem if death connected to plants on kitchen windowsill". Hmmm.... my solicitor will be rather interested to read that addition, he may refer me to the men in white coats!! :rotfl:

Some people just fuss over everything! I have 2 small children and trying to stop them eating dirt etc is a continual task but having said that they both seem to be well most of the time, apart from usual childhood stuff. Do try to teach them to wash hands etc but they really can't be bothered most of the time, also its summer, their in the garden all the time and want to 'help' mummy garden so there we go even more dirt.
Tell them to stop being so neurotic and if they don't like don't offer a cup of tea or anything else.

As for children & hygiene - I'm a great believer in the 'rub it on your sleeve' method of cleaning fruit from the garden. Carrots get a swish in the paddling pool :rotfl:

    Hi Urban Koala
Please send your guest to my house. As well as plants on the windowsill, they can be outraged at the watering can, horrified at the bare plaster, distressed at the compost-bound goodies in a bowl, and appalled at the decorating brushes, rollers, trays etc.

Do you think some people are scared of life?!:rotfl:

Go on then, I have to ask.
How, have you got sweetcorn and broccoli in your kitchen? Unless you have a very large kitchen. And why?

Plants aren't allowed in commercial kitchens but its not a concern in your own home unless you are continually knocking them over.
bear in mind in commercial kitchens we wash lettuce and salad veg in chlorine:eek: I would never do that at home, the tabs we use at work bring the floor up lovely though.
