Credit Card for Student

in Credit cards
My daughter has never had a CC. Has student bank account with Natwest, most of her loan is in an ISA and she tends to be using her 0% overdraft most of the time. She recently applied for a Santander cc as she was going abroad for a while and it seemed to have best rates for overseas usage, but she has been turned down. She has now gone away, so no urgency but I feel it would be sensible for her to have a cc to improve her credit rating. Is she going to be likely to get one whilst still a student with no income (she is on a very full on course with little time for part time work) or is she better to leave it rather than applying again and being turned down thus making her credit score appear worse. And if its worth another go does anyone recommend a card that might accept her.
