"Radical policy shift as homes shortage deepens"
Sounds good:

Found this bit interesting:
"The Tories believe pension funds will "professionalise" landlord services and represent better managers of homes than serial buy-to-let investors who, at the height of the boom, bought two thirds of all new properties built in London." :eek:0 -
Somewhere I've posted my experience of renting in Germany (Switzerland is similar) where renting is much more normal/mainstream because tenure is better and professionalism from LLs who are often pension funds and long term investors."Radical policy shift as homes shortage deepens"

Just a point. It's just a think tank operating in a tory council.
Nothing to do with tory policy

with 'dave' uber keen on distancing the party from the thatcher yrs (where the council house trouble started) this idea just might have legs.0 -
Let's hope so.
Certainly need more council houses.0 -

Plus, in Germany (at least in Berlin) you can normally treat the flat you are renting a lot more like your own property and do things like knock down walls, re-paint, put down flooring etc (as long as you get the LL permission which you normally do).
I don't understand the point of having to pay over 1k per month but not being able to even put a pin in the wall to hang a painting. It's like LLs want to have their cake and eat it . Tenants should have more rights regarding what they can do to the flat (so long as they revert it back to its original condition) in my opinion.0 -

And the tory's have had loads of these think tanks and policy papers and the like in the last couple of years and still have very few firm policies in place, so I wouldn't place too much trust in it0 -

It's not all great - the fact most flats are long term mean you are expected to put in a kitchen - and most Germans have the mentality to take it with them - so you see a lot of flats to rent with no kitchens.....0 -

Only because labour are thieving every single policy they reveal. Wait till the run-up to the election. The only policies the cons have revealed are the ones Labour HAVE to oppose, such as public spending expansion vs cuts.0 -
Seems like a good idea - I'd much rather rent from a professional landlord than a greedy amateur sans a clue.0
