wanna know how to sell car-autotrader?

Put mine in the Autotrader for six weeks and it didn't sell. Put it on Ebay for 10 days and someone emailed me after 3 and made an offer that was acceptable. Don't rate Autotrader very highly any more, used to be good but too expensive for what you get now. Also, you MUST put 'no canvassers' in the advert otherwise you'll get loads of companies ringing you up offering to sell it for you for £80 commision - I got thoroughly sick of them in the first two weeks! He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0

Hello hollydays
I'll move your thread to the 'Motoring & Public Transport' board, where it should get more views and responses.

AutoTrader is definately the place to sell used cars!...I'd just put it on the internet only...reaches far more people that way!....as has been previously mentioned make sure you put 'no agencies' at the end of your description as this should just about eliminate all the stupid phone calls!
If you have trouble selling on Autotrader it'll be down to one thing..........your asking to much for the car! :rolleyes:New car (not even 2months old) up for sale:-
Ford Focus Sport 1.8TDCi 5dr '06' plate
Sea Grey
2600miles

Hi, I'm also just selling my car, didn't fancy paying out for autotrader so put it up on a few free sites. Such as:
freeads
admart
adtrader
Also printed out a few signs and put them up in car window. it worked last time, although I had to wait a month.
Anyone know of anyother good free sites to list it on?
Also I think I heard on the radio that exchange and mart are doing ads for £5 with picture? Haven't checked though.
How much is autotrader?
many thanks0 -
Hiya,
I put an ad on autotrader.co.uk last night at 5pm, it cost £5.99 for 2 weeks, web only with 9 pictures.
So far I had 2 calls last night, and 3 this morning.
One offered me a good price and can collect tonight, cash in hand, and 2 of the other 4 are viewing inbetween tonight and saturday.
Just need to wait to see who turns up with the money first.
I've tried ebay and all the free ads, all I seemed to get is jonny foreigners wanting to ship my "product" and asking what its present condition is. Beware of the scammers!

Hey everyone, thought I'ld give autotrader a go, it was £15.99 for 2 weeks, this is website only. I put it up on Friday and haven't recieved 1 call as of yet! Is this because it's easter? Or possibly because on the pics I put up the date is 2002? (they aren't it is just i put new batteries in the camera and the date was reset) Was just thinking will people think these are old pictures and not consider calling. Would it be worth me editing it? Is this possible? Also I think I have priced this car up about right so I don't think this is an issue? Hope someone can help! Many thanks in advance to those who reply!0 -

I dont know about spec. etc, but it looks to me your asking too much for the car ...
Me/Mother are both looking for new cars. Seen 02 plate 106's for £3295 quite a few times - and that has the backup of the garage ... yours is older, although not many miles, and no warranty0 -
In response to B2_LNW, it's worth making the most of the wording as you have done but in my opinion there are a few things missing.
Putting on a pessimistic cap, from the advert the car has no service history maybe had a few owners and with a murky past has possibly been clocked to get that low mileage. 'Clean' is regularly used by the trade but the public could take it to mean not dirty but with scrapes and dents here and there. If the paint is metallic then say so.
If the history isn't there then obviously you cannot say it has any but any more to suggest it has been looked after will help at least get people to call.

Hey everyone, had no luck selling the car on autotrader!!! £15.99 wasted! not very moneysaving?! Had a few calls, that was it. Well I tried.. Just sticking it on free sites now. Anyone know any good ones?
i've reduced price to £2750 and added a bit more detail, not great at writing ads. If anyone got any advice it would be very much appreciated!

My fiance is also selling her car!
http://cars.uk.freeads.net/2001_Y_reg_FIAT_SEICENTO-206594.htm
i know the price is high but she thinks it is worth it! It is a great car, low mileage again, could the ad be written better?
would it be worth adding how many miles they do to the gallon? Also, how would i go about test drives, do i let them drive without insurance? Or do I drive them round the block?
Thanks in advance! If any1 does know any good free ad sites please list

I've got my car on autotrader for the 4th time right now...
I've been doing the £15.99 for 2 weeks and dropping the price each time. I had 1 timewaster viewing and some canvassers (despite putting no canvassers in the ad).
The high point was autotrader themselves phoning up and asking about the car... canvassing for me to advertise with them!!! Must have got my details elsewhere.
It'll be the last time I advertise there. I've tried ebay but you get a lot of timewasters and everybody wants a bargain. I think I might look at just trading it in now...
(for those interested, VW Passat automatic, 72k. £2395).0
