Parents supporting student loan

Is anyone else having problems with Student Finance. We applied to support our DD application at the beginning of May - sent off our P60's etc and waited and waited..... She finally gets her offer through without it being means tested saying they have not received the P60's. To cut a long story short after many phone calls, they have confirmed that they have received the P60's and that they are scanned onto their system, but not the same system that generates the loans!!! Hence we keep getting letters through the post asking for additional information etc. What a waste of tax payers money!!
Also they have advised DD to sign the loan application she has received without it being means tested - is this a good idea or could she have problems receiving any difference she is entitled to once they have means tested the loan.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I think this has happened to lots of people this year - me included. Student loans nearly always need requesting more than once (most years they tell me I haven't signed the forms ) and this year is no exception, as the whole system has changed and they are a bit behind. Definitely go for the normal loan whilst you are waiting. Eventually, she will get what she is entitled to (even if it's really late, they can backdate it), and at least she will be able to pay tuition fees in the meantime.0 -

If she signs it and send it back, she will still get any additional funding she's entitled to.0 -

Hi,
Yes like you we applied on-line in early May closely followed by our P60's in the post. As yet we have not heard whether they have received the documentation let alone process it. (I would certainly recommend sending anything by recorded post). I have chassed on a number of occasions and they now have even taken the email facility away so I have had to resort to putting pen to paper.
We also have had the obligatory letters asking for support but even their website is now stating to 'ignore them'. We also have had a basic offer, which we are reluctantly going to sign and return, as if we didn't he would not get anything.
The latest letter we have had is now thanking my son 'for providing his financial information in support of his son's application'. (He does not have a son).
The whole department appears to be in a shambolic state and I would hope the national press are picking up on this and are investigating why the process is in a mess.0 -

Have had almost exactly the same problem, but instead of the P60s they've lost our Decree Absolute and Self-employed Tax Summary. So now they've said we need to send both again with a cover note. Which will cost us aswell. Hope after this they'll stop messing me about!0

I've had a similar problem; I'm going into my 3rd year and when I applied online it said that my mum's financial information from previous years would be used so she didn't need to submit anything. This was back in March, and last week I finally got my financial notification through- not means tested! After a few phone calls to people who blatently didn't know what had happened, one said that my mum still needed to support my application- she just didn't need to actually do anything further once she'd clicked support application (nice of them to say that in the first place!). Surprise surprise, when we tried to do that online it wouldn't work so my mum has had to send of a PFF2 form with all the financial mumbo jumbo, even though she's not actually required to give any of this information! Slightly annoying as I'm actually studying abroad this year and I'm moving in a few weeks so it needs to be sorted by the time I go!
Good luck with getting yours sorted...0
