A long situation short, I have had a BT line here since September 07. in April 08 my flatmate made about £300 in phone calls over a 2 week period and did a runner also owing the LL 3 months rent.
Because I couldnt pay the bill BT disconnected the service(not the line) and when I explained opened me a new account and 12 month contract(didnt want this but knew I would be here at least one more year)
All was going ok, around August I went to SKY talk just for calls and not line rental since I thought id save a few quid a month and had no problems with BT, around March I had a family crisis so was away from home for weeks at a time and just came back to get letters.
Whilst I was away I was harassed and harassed non stop by Talk Talk sellers and because I was under a lot of stress and if they bothred me any more I would of been sick or even fainted or even hit them I agreed to sign up knowing I had 14 days to cancel.
I wrote a letter and sent it recorded delivery stating I didnt want contract and as it was less than 14 days since I signed and the line hasnt even been transferred I was staying with BT.
I came back about 2-3 weeks later and just picked up my bills and let my direct debit go through as usual.
I have come back after not being here for 6 weeks to see 3 letters, 1 from BT saying I owe like £100 in charges for tranferring out before contract ended, 1 debt recovery letter from them, and another from a debt collector who is adding on court costs and solicitors fees and extra charges meaning they want £250!
I also saw a welcome pack from Talk Talk saying I am tied into a 18 month contract.
I tried phoning TT and the woman was abusive saying no letter was ever sent and basically "tough luck you are stuck with us" And couldnt get hold of BT as they say its passed to debt collectors!
TT are saying I have to pay off the contract to get out and pay extra early cancellation fees.
I am worried as I cannot find the receipt showing it recieved by RD(I checked at the time and it said delivered) also I am moving house literally in 2 days time so cannot afford to pay 16 months of a contract especially now I am not working!
What can I do.
