Purple Sprouting Broccoli Flowering :(
Hello Guys... I noticed today that one of my sprouting Broccoli Plants has got little white flowers on it
I've cut off the Flowering Stems but I just wanted to know if that means that the whole plant is now ruined? Will more new stems grow or should I just pull it up and be done with it?
Its quite odd because the one next to it which is the same variety and planted on the same day appears to be fine with nice tight purple heads
Any idea what the main causes of flowering are so I can try and stop it happening to the other one?
P.S. I'm going to pull up my 1st lot of Spuds tomorrow, I'm Sooo Excited

My broccoli has flowered.gone to seed too. It was looking good last week. Mind you I never had any success with cauli either. Maybe my soin is not right for it.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

This is my first year growing broccoli. One of my plants has started flowering and I was also wondering if this was supposed to happen. If anyone has any experience of growing broccoli I would be grateful for any ideas.0

If they flower it means you haven't harvested them in time. Cut the florets off as soon as they look nice and tight and more should form.0

Eek, noticed ours are flowering too. My OH is going to be soooooo disappointed as our cauli's did the same. One question though; the brocolli has lovely leaves - can we eat these?

You'll need to pull it out. Some of my carrots and beetroot bolted and went to flower as well, which hasn't ever happened in the past. Apparently it's caused by planting too early - maybe the weather just wasn't warm enough this year.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

Yesterday I noticed that I have some florets on my purple sprouting broccoli.:)0

All the leaves are edible, but most plants go a bit bitter once they go to seed. Sating that I cooked some broccolli which was just starting to flower last year and didn't notice a difference.

If you have time & space, cut tops off the flowering ones and let them grow new fresh leaves, these are "spring greens", not the most exciting veg perhaps, but in times past it filled the hungry gap between stored winter veg & fresh harvestNumerus non sum0
