Argos Challenge 750 Watt Oil Filled Radiator

I thought I'd write a quick review of the 750 watt Challenge Oil filled Radiator I got from Argos last winter after upgrading from a Dimplex 1.2 Kw oil panel heater after expansion clicking becoming annoying especially when watching TV.

At £35 I thought it was good value for money, Being wall mountable was important as my old heater was wall mounted. The only concern I had was it was only 750 watt to heat a 18 x 12 x 9 ft room.

The thing I like about this radiator is it measures the air temperature rather than the old heater that measured the temperature of the oil.

It looks like a regular radiator and wall mounting just involved drilling 4 holes. The brackets have long slits allowing you to adjust the brackets until they are level. Once the radiator is hung on the brackets there are 2 plastic clips (which isn't clear what there for in the instructions) these clips stop the radiator being lifted off its brackets.

There is a large switch on the side the radiator and a rotary thermostat with a quiet click when its switching on and off - there is no timer.

Once hot the surface is VERY hot giving out a surprising amount of heat. The radiator took about 3 or 4 hours to get the room up to heat before I heard the thermostat click off. I decided to leave it on 24/7, the thermostat clicked on about every 20 minutes for about 10 minutes - the outside temp was about 0 degrees at this time.

As I had the it switched on 24/7 and on the basis of the thermostat is On for 20 minutes an hour and my Tier 2 tariff at 10p a KW it works out at about 60p a day to run.

I thought Id try the affectiness of the heater in an already warm environment of 23 degrees.

I am impressed.. I put the thermostat on full to see how affective it was, sitting over 6 foot away I could just about feel the heat off it.
