Indeed!
It is only quite recently that credit card companies began reporting the amount outstanding on each statement versus how much was paid against it, and many still do not do this.
Also, the date that they report the running balance to the CRA is generally a date of their choosing, not connected with the date a statement is generated or a payment is made. It is therefore quite possible to have a history of balances outstanding on your credit file despite always paying off the full balance.
Unless your particular card issuer is one of the ones who now report the additional info (and admittedly more are doing this now), it is impossible to tell from someone's credit file alone whether they clear the full balance each month or not.0 -
I think to say it's random is going a bit far!
Of limited real use perhaps, but not actually random.
Perhaps it isn't generated randomly. However it is every bit as useful as a number that is generated randomly for reasons others have brought up in this thread. And as far as meaningless numbers go it's a costly one at £60 -
I just wanted to say that when I opened a student account with NatWest they certainly gave me a credit card automatically without me applying for one. This was a few years ago though so I don't know if things have changed now.0

Yea maybe they just printed off the form as part of the pack and said to you sign here and here and here!
I'm talking like, 80's and early 90's since they used to give you a card just by asking the bank manager! Since mid 90's CCA's were commonplace and so I think you'll have signed something, maybe they just weren't very open about what, exactly, you signed2010 - year of the troll

There we go then. You are someone who cannot use finance correctly (hence trying to sue) so why on earth are you trying to educate others ?never-in-doubt wrote: »All you've done is mis-read what I typed and got on your high horse bragging about earning peanuts - trust me, i'm not in any debt.
I am suing because of an incorrect link - I am in no debt. Assumptions are the mother of all f@ck-ups!never-in-doubt wrote: »Mate we both know it is random.... christ, it gave me over 900 and I have like 20 odd defaults on my file! Its a total con....

In this thread, I don't think Ritchie74 said you were in debt, was it in another thread?
I'm sure you would forgive anyone for jumping to the conclusion that 20 odd defaults does sound like someone who cannot use finance correctly, but for all I know it's due to clerical errors or something.
I think it's generally accepted that most lenders don't use a CRA's credit score to come to a lending decision, apparently internal models are used from the historical data supplied.
I agree, it's a bit of a swiz to charge for a thumb suck that you could arrive at with a bit of common sense. You never really know if you'll get credit until the lender comes back with their decision. :beer:0
