Backing up iTunes

Options
Hope someone can help. I'm having a few problems with iTunes at the moment - too long to explain here, but the gist of it is that I'm getting an error message saying that the programme is corrupt and my iPod can't read from the database. As a result, I now have an empty iPod rather than one with 3000+ tunes.

The tunes are there in iTunes - i'm listening to it now. I was wondering whether it was possible to back up iTunes' contents (rather than a copy of the application) to an external USB drive for example, so that I can hopefully sort out iTunes without losing several months worth of music-uploads.

Any thoughts what I can do? Other than cry?

Cheers,

Ian.

Hi IanT, I've just finished doing this myself with a bulky library, and this method didn't take too long at all.

Basically, once your actual music is back up, make sure you back up another 2 files... "iTunes Library” and “iTunes Music Library.xml”. They are located in ~/Music/iTunes/
