Kitten eating too much?

Hi, I have a kitten that is 13weeks'ish, and he eats so much! Never stops it seems. Before I got him my other cat would have 1 maybe 1 and 1/2 wet food and I'd leave biscuits down for her to nibble on during the night/day.

Since I've gotten Archie, their food bills have TRIPLED, he eats SO much biscuits it's unreal, I just need to put them out and he's feeding his face, and even when he's had his fill and my other cat decides to have a munch, he runs over and has to eat some more! I had A LOT of cat biscuits in my cupboard and that would of lasted Clio about 5 months, nope all gone now!

They get 1 sachet of wet in the morning and 1 at night, to share. So it's 1 a day really, unless I'm using a can, then they will get a bit more.

Maybe I should go back to buying him the kitten pouches? I stopped because he would ignore it and eat Clio's Felix, and she would eat his.

Should I stop putting so much food down? Maybe his 1 pack of wet, spread over 4 meals? I remember doing that with Clio when she was a kitten and she DEFFO did not eat as much as him, only problem is him, when I feed Clio he runs in bats her on the head and forces all his bulk in front of the bowls, which isn't very fair!

He has been wormed, so not that, must just be a growth spurt? He is ALWAYS on the go, so much so that he's locked out of my bedroom at night because my toes couldn't handle any more....:p

Sounds about right for an active growing lad! If he's got any large breed genes in him he'll keep bulking up for several months now, and may even have another bit of a growth spurt at 18 months or so. Just watch his weight once he has been neutered.

Well I'll be getting him spayed as soon as possible, don't want to be finding any smelly bits around the house, and when he becomes sexually active he might pester the older cat more than he does, poor thing (she has been done!) but she likes her snoozes, and he just can't leave her be and has to start capering!

I guess I'll just give him what he wants then, he only weighs 5lbs, bless, quite long and has massive legs!

Never met a cat like him, I actually have to lock him out the room when we eat, he eats ANYTHING, curry, chutney, scrambled eggs, peas, carrot, breadsticks....

Don't go back to the kitten food if the older cat is eating it, it really isn't good for them (too much protein)

I have 3 cats, younges is 9 months - he eats more than my older female cat and about the same as my other male cat (who is a massive mog - not fat, just really big)

At 13 weeks I'd still be feeding him at least 3 meals a day.

my rescue 'kitten' is 16 months ish and eats like a horse too! Although, he has phases, so some days he is begging for food and climbing over the cupboard he knows the stuff is in, the other days he doesn't care and barely eats.

I give him 2 pouches per day, with some milk or biscuits over night, he is obviously a lot older, although he is very skinny with huge feet and a long body so I think he will get to be a big tom cat :D

Surely kitten eats what they need to keep them in mischeif? certainly when my parents cats were little they ate loads more than I would have expected and now the surviving one is a normalish size (shes old now).

Oh he gets more than 3meals, the biscuit bowl is never ever empty, and he gets the two meat meals, I might give him a bit more wet though.

Yeah probably best to skip the kitten chow, he didn't seem that keen on it, well he still ate it but he didn't purr when he ate that!

He's honestly a pest with food, I was making sandwiches earlier and he smelled the tuna, and that was it, he was trying to jump up my leg and meowing pathetically, he did the same when OH was cutting up chicken breasts. He can't climb the counters yet, so he climbs up the oven gloves....hence why he's out of the kitchen most of the time, unless I'm there to watch the pest.

Okay, I'll make sure he gets nothing tomatoey, the curry thing was an accident on my part....didn't put my plate away fast enough hehe.
  • Is it a decent brand of food? The '4% meat' ones usually leave them hungry not long after being fed.

Unfort it's whatever is on offer, supermarket is a lot closer than pets @ home, I tried Appleaws (sp) with my last cat and she wouldt touch it, I'll maybe try another preimum one when Im next at pets @ home, at least I know he would eat it and it wouldnt go to waste like last time.

I wouldn't go back to pouches... at this age ours were going through up to 3 a day. Don't know how the price compares to the dry, but we had to buy vast amounts in!

It must be the name! I have 2 kittens, theo & archie. Archie by far scoffs the most & even pinches Theo's grub! hopefully your Archie will settle down! Good luck.
