Does paying for foreign currency on a credit card count as cash advance or a purchase?
Going to Mexico next month and whilst I'm not planning on taking a lot of cash, I wanted to take some for tips, etc.
Are credit cards widely accepted in Mexico?

Take US dollar cash to Mexico.
Support your own currency!
I always tip with Sterling when abroad.
The natives seem to like it and it hopefully makes them feel as if they have something prestigous in their pocket.
They know what to do with it.....no worries.
Also use sterling to purchase goods alongside the road etc, they love it if they think they have done you on exchange rate.:rotfl:0 -
Could you buy travellers cheques with an M&S card and have them on 0% for no fee and cash them in Mexican bank for local dosh cheaply?
There is a thread on M&S card and travellers cheques.........worth a look.
Perhaps someone could post a link.0 -
Which credit card(s) do you have?
If yo have a Tesco card you can purchase foreign currency through Tesco and it will be treated as a purchase. If you call customer services they will give you the number or put you through and you can even have the currency delivered the next working day.0 -

Cheers folks. I've currently got a Cap One, Virgin, FlyBe and BarclayCard. I'm getting rid of the CapOne (and possibly the BC).0
