Will Writing Services

Options
A bit of guidance required please.

My Mum (divorced, 2 children, own house with small mortgage) would like to make a will, she has been approached by WSL Will Writing Services who reckon they can do it for less than £50. This seems remarkably cheap to me, does anyone have any experience of WSL or similar companies?

Thanks in advance.

I, too, am divorced, 2 children, own home (mortgage paid off....yippee!!) and I've just made a new will using a will writing service. I got the name of the chap I used through the Institute of Professional Willwriters who have a list of their members, one of who is bound to be in your area. The whole process cost me £150. This is the standard fee for members of the IPW. This included initial visit, writing of the will, further visit (to my place of work) to effect the witnessing of my signing of the will), storage of the will in the Principle Registry, High Court of Justice, plus a copy of my will and extra documents to complete and give to executors. Members of the IPW are insured up to £1million pounds. £50 pounds seems very cheap to me and if there is one legal document you need to get right, it is your will. The whole process was efficient, relatively cheap compared to a solicitor and I have the added security of knowing that if my willwriter screwed up, there's a million quid there to put things right! The IPW website is http://www.ipw.org.uk/. Hope this helps.

    Good advice from sufisu.

Willwriting is still an unregulated profession and there are many pitfalls for the unwary.

Have they provided you with a price list of all their fees or told you about their `additional services?` - Probably not. That will come from their `reassuring consultant` once inside your home.

In fact they crop up in the following thread - have a read of it before you go any further:

    It is two million now!

Not only that, there is a strict code of conduct endorsed by the OFT.
