CSA how long does it take?

I have applied to CSA for maintence for my three children in March and was told the claim was open since 2005 which I did not put in , but my ex was awarded zero payments, I said that was when he was off work and on capacitity benefits and has been working since the end of 2005.

I am not one of these "greedy ex wives" the straw that broke my back was when I ran out of oil in January I asked my ex for 100 quid for oil he has never contributed anything towards his kids and he told me sorry cant give you the money you whould not let yourself go broke! then jetted off to Lanzarote with his OH and her three kids. It was the lowest point in my life as I had never asked him for anything in the four years since we split up. his OH was my ex best friend till they had the affair and now she is living a lifestyle of luxury driving a mercedes and claiming benefits.

I ring the CSA every week and keep being told they have my ex pay slips and a decision will be made soon that was from March this year I feel that I am getting nowhere.

Is there anything I can do to get this sorted?

I changed the course of my life when we ran out of oil I got myself a job, but if I am being honest I am actually worse off working cos I wont get uniform grants for the kids this summer and no more free school dinners etc.

  • You are not worse off getting a job in the long run, but I know how you feel.

If you have been left hanging by the CSA since March, I would get your MP involved. It worked for me, I had contact within 3 weeks from the CSA

I would also think you are due arrears from March if that was when you first asked for a reassessment, but Kelloggs will be able to confirm.

    Are you suprised?
As much as parents should be responsible for their children, nearly £800 per month is completely taking the !!!!.

No way on earth does anyone spend that sort of money on a child every month.
Some of that money is clearly going to support you and he has rightly refused.

I don't actually agree Woody. I agree that it's not hardly surprising he has handed his notice in because if he can't afford £800 a month, where is he supposed to get this money from? Pluck it from thin air?

But he does still owe that money if he's racked up the arrears through not fault but his own.

To me it seems more sensible to ask a NRP with arrears to keep paying off the amount they can afford (the 15% or whatever) and then if any arrears are still owing after the child turns 16/17/18/19 etc then they continue making the payments directly to the child until the arrears are paid off. It might take years, but at least they are actually paying the child support off, the child gets what they are due and the NRP might not end up doing what the NRP in the OP has done and just stopped paying it all together.

This probably won't help but I was soo fed up with the csa, having to call them every month to get them to chase my ex's employers to make sure they had sent the payment! Yesterday, when I called I got the usual "I'll log a call, it'll take up to 5 working days" so I pleasantly said that's not good enough and I'll hold until it's done.

To cut a long story short..after tooing and froing with the bloke at the csa (he even told me to hang up at one point) I eventually managed to speak to a team leader who gave me the information I needed and I was off the phone in 45 seconds!

Not once was I nasty, grumpy or horrible...I remained polite and nice but insisted I was not going to get off the phone until I had a result...HEY PRESTO...IT WORKED!!!!

No doubt I'll have to go through it all again next month!

    Who's Snouty?

Thinking about it, to be asked to pay the basic £500 a month child support without including the arrears, must have meant he had a very high waged job (about £40,000 odd a year). If he could have afforded to pay out £800 a month in maintenance without any problems, would he really have up and left his ridiculously high paid (in my opinion) job that easily?
