Caring for someone 24/7 who has mental health issues is phenomenally pressured. I just wanted to say that I hope you both end up refreshed- and good luck with the forms. :)

If you all read the history you would know that the breakdown and follow on claims are very new, so the following posts on this thread may not know the full story.

I think caring for someone 24/7 irrespective of the condition is a bl**dy damn fine job but has very little financial rewards.

Carers of the country save the government millions of pounds and they get b*ggerall back. How much is carers anyway? About a poxy £40 a week?

Remember that Mr MP when you submit claims for moat cleaning and duck houses

I cannot really see the relevance of the back story unless you find it surprising that the OPs girlfriend has travelled abroad alone despite her problems, if that it is the case.
  • Hi Molly,

Yes she's benefiting from the very quiet location & also that her mum & dad are looking after her. She's moaning it's too hot (???!!...women hey(!)) but 28 celcius, no humidity & clean mountain air sounds good to me! They're having a bbq tonight & eating outside...

Sounds nice.. where's she's gone to if you don't mind me asking?

TBH, I did wonder how someone with 24 hour care needs has managed to take a last minute flight, on her own, to stay with family members who may be unable to care for her properly.

And then he may be going over for a week or two, because they may not be able to care for her, and that would mean he can keep his CA.

Something smells fishy in this latest thread.

If I'm wrong, then I hope the break does her good.

As for the interview, all you can do is contact them and ask.

Welshmoneylover....southern french alps. Mamtor-will look in to the 4 week holiday thingy-will contact Carers team 2morrow if needed. In answer to those who ask why she was able to travel, the nature of her illness varies. Without going in to to much detail she does have periods where the symptoms do get better. I've probably said too much in previous posts already ! Will let you all know how it goes.

This link http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/CaringForSomeone/MoneyMatters/CarersAllowance/DG_10012859 seems to clarify matters but will contact them tomorrow anyway. Thanks for all the feedback & help.

I answered in relation to creased leach`s post, the OP has only been in reciept of carers a few weeks and his girlfriends illness came out of the blue a short while ago yet she can now travel abroad alone when she has just been awarded high rate care allowance?

I will contact her nurse just to make 100% sure that they can provide a letter/intervene but I can't see them having an issue with moving the date back 2 weeks or so given her condition. Also they've not yet received the medical questionaire...as you know I'm working on this at the mo! Perhads board member ESA could advise as well?

Thanks for posting Molly. Sounds SO selfish but I have had 2 nights of great sleep-I just needed the break as well.
What do you need advice on?
