    I agree with Markymark.

    One of the quote portals we use for home insurance quotations doesnt even allow you to put in joint names so the policies are not issued on joint basis. At least, not at that point anyway.

    Although its desirable to have it in joint names, there is no requirement to do so. The main gain would be that claim forms and communication can be done by either of you rather than just the policyholder. In the case of buildings insurance, the lender MAY want the policy to be issued with the names matching those on the mortgage but contents insurance is irrelevant.
