I'm the opposite, I think monthly fee's would be a good thing and stop so many dormant accounts. Put it this way, if I had 3 cards and had to pay for them all i'd soon start to drop some and keep just one (like my banking arrangements) which suits me fine.
Monthly fees for banking was always a Euro/US thing but slowly and surely it's crept into our system and before long the credit cards will follow suit..... a couple of quid a month is fine - after all, they are providing you a service and if you're happy then paying for such happiness is surely worth a couple of quid?

It's bound to creep in because of the reclaiming of unlawful fees.
Whatever you think of the fees, the fact is that the bank need to make a certain profit and hence fees will have to come in across the board.
Banks already try to push their "premium" accounts with monthly fees, so I think it will ultimately all go that way.
Also as already pointed out will save them a fortune in admin on dormant accounts.0
