Formule 1 and Etap are the cheapest motels, without private bathrooms but clean enough. We often overnight in an Ibis which is mid range (own bathroom) and we usually pay 50 - 60 euros per night. Breakfast is always extra. These are chain hotels so without personality but in good locations for stopovers.
Driving south we take either the route around Paris which leads you to the A75 where you go over the fantastic Millau Bridge, or the route via Reims - Dijon - Lyon.
Happy motoring!
