Spending Abroad for Dummies

OK, i think i got this clear in my head but just to check...
1. Open a nationwide current account
2. Keep it empty (i've got better current accounts elsewhere) until a couple weeks before you leave to go on holiday, then fill up with as much as you'll need abroad.
3. Then you can use the debit card to withdraw cash from ATM's for free
(PS - i'm only interested in spending cash when abroad. i dont think many places will accept cards where i'm going
)
4. Enjoy the holiday...
Is that the basic way of doing it? I want to be sure before i go ahead and open the account.
Also whats the deal with using the nationwide credit card abroad, is that free to withdraw cash/spend in shops?

pretty much got it down in a nutshell.
Re the credit card, use if for purchases NEVER for taking money out of an ATM. Reason for purchases is you will get Consumer Credit Act protection.
