Why poor savings rates for children?

I think most places do ... Halifax will let you open a Fixed Rate Web Saver (online only) or Guaranteed Reserve. You won't be able to open an ISA anywhere (they are age 16+), but other accounts should be ok.0

Nationwide definately allow children to hold their fixed rate bonds. Various rates from 6 months to 5 years.
