We will be moving at the end of August from Scotland to England, 4.5 hours away and am looking at hiring a small lorry. Either a http://www.arnoldclarkrental.com/cgi-bin/cgiip.exe/WService=weblease2/xcr3/xpub/xpubvehinfo.p?session=bLSndoehBaVkAcidjbdabcdIpbdrwJip&UID=ijqdZRbaoawiaIMp&vehicle=D1TL

If we had a Luton type my partner (25years old, bus driver) would drive it, but if it was a 7.5 tonner, my dad with a C1 on his lisence would drive it for me. We are flexible in the fact that we could have a return hire or a one way and will need 2 days.

I've never seen anything about cashback websites, offers or ways to reduce the van hire costs through MSE and I wondered if someone could point me in the right direction or give me their own advice please

I know of arnold clark, nationwide and enterprise. Is there anyone else?

So far its looking to cost £172 for return for the Luton 3.5 tonner and £220 for the C1 class type, 7.5 tonner.

thanks

maybe there's a van hire comparison site out there?

Hi, other van rental companies include easyVan, Van Hire 3000, Sixt and Hertz. These all have rental locations throughout the UK and more than likely offer one way van hire although you will pay an additional charge for this service.

I also suggest you book well in advance as Luton vans do get booked up by people moving home, usually towards the end of the month.

I have used the Compare Van Hire web site which includes a useful directory of rental companies and their locations.

    Hope that helps.

You will find one-way hire pretty expensive as they'll charge a fair bit extra. Sixt (for example) will do it on vans but may not have a convenient 'one-way' location for you.

Personaly I have always found "local" hire places - purhaps with 1 to 5 outlets - to be the cheapest places, but this would mean no one-way rental option. They are also often very good in terms of service. Definatly get bigger than you think you need, that has always served me the best! Once you wrap and box things it always takes up more room than you thought.
