How long to set up a bank account?

So i applied for an A&L account, got the email the following day "You've been accepted, we're setting up your account, you'll also get written confirmation of this in a couple of days".

Great! I let my current bank know that i'm closing my account
and that in the next couple of days i'll make arrangements for transferring my funds and arrange for the direct debits/standing orders to move over.

That was on the 26th of June. Now it's the 10th of July. How long does A&L need to set a new account up? I submitted the application during working hours, the credit check went through 2 hours later. I got the acceptance email the following day.

What are they doing for 2 weeks now?

This happened to me as well and I honestly believe they have a major glitch in their system right now regarding mailing out your stuff.

Call them and chase it up.

They claimed I failed to give my address correctly on the online form and left off the property number! I countered this argument by asking how they managed to open an account and credit check me without a correct address and wouldn't this break some sort of banking code?

It all went a bit quiet on the other end of the phone. I think that said more than any words could.

One phone call and amazingly my card arrived 2 days later and the new account was available for use and showing up linked to my current login page.

There is still no better way to open an account then pop into a branch with ID.

You're absolutely right. Sadly that is not an option when you're applying for a joint account and not all parties are available 9-5 business hours.
