My OH & I are now the proud owners of our very first home
.
We managed to bag a 5 year fix with Northern Rock at 4.69% which comes in at 2/3rds of the rent we're currently paying for more space, more freedom ... - v happy with that for our first ever mortgage as gives us 5 years to not worry about things changing.
We viewed the house on 28th May, made an offer on 1st June, had offer accepted on 3rd June. Morning of 4th June we made our formal mortgage application + instructed a solicitor. We then heard nothing from anyone until 26th June where we received an e-mail with the formal mortgage offer. 2 pm on 29th June we met with solicitor to discuss the purchase and sign the contracts, 2nd July we exchanged contracts and today, 10th July we completed!!
Am picking up keys in an hour!

July!
That's the one
I am rather excited.
I hope out timeline is useful to other FTBs - we were in a position to move quickly & so was the vendor. The only truly agonising part of the whole experience was the wait for the mortgage offer!0 -
Congatulations and thanks for keeping us all up to date.
Sounds like a really smooth transaction - many are not.
Enjoy your new home - until you buy the next time:beer:A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. In latter part of career specialising in commercial - mostly business sales.0 -
