Serial expansion

Options
I want to connect two serial devices to a PC with only one serial port.
Can I daisy chain off one connection? I see that you can buy PCI cards with 2 serial ports on them for £12 on Amazon, so this is another option.
Finally, can I go USB-Serial or will this require special drivers for the PC? I'm using National Instruments Labview to run it all.

  • USB-Serial adaptors might be good for some devices and bad for others. I have one which works to connect my dive computer perfectly but won't program my remote control. It does, of course, need drivers loading to offer the "virtual" COM port....

You can't daisy-chain. You can swap the devices over. And you can buy a supercheapy legacy card new or used to get the extra COM port.

If you can't move away from legacy connections, get the I/O card - it'll need nothing more than just sticking in IMO....
In the United Kingdom 200,000 people are bitten by dogs every year and some people will die as a result. Of those bitten, 70% are children... So the question has to be asked....... Has the time come to ban children?
