I have an argos credit card (not store card) and was wondering if anyone knows that if i pay off my £600 gas and electricity bill with it will i be charged as a purchase or a cash advance? I have rooted around on the internet and have drawn a blank.... any help on this matter would be greatly received

Depends on whether your utility provider accepts credit cards.
Most don't accept them in which case the answer is no.
Have a look at your bill under "ways to pay"
Note that often there are discounts for paying by direct debit.0 -

If the utility company accepts card payment, then it will classed as a purchase. Is this a one off payment? Usually monthly direct debit is the best way of avoiding any surcharges on the mode of payment.0 -
My utility company accepts credit cards as payment but charges a 1.5% fee to do so.0

thanks for the replies, i was paying monthly D/D for the utilities and obviously they waited 12 months to tell me my monthly payments did not cover the cost of fuels used and would now like £220 pmth for 12 months or a payment of £600 to be back in credit. Not a happy bunny.. will check with my provider and see if they accept credit card payments. once again thanks0

Could you not have seen this by looking at your bills?
Why weren't you aware you were falling behind?0
