Anyway, just one more add on. Cleaver, you seem to be saying that the average wage couple can afford a FTB home in a dodgy area. This slipped past me until now!
Surely if they are bringing in that sort of money, they should be able to get something a little better than a FTB home? I.e., the average home?
Anyway, one way to clear up whether those prices reflected the dodgy area, was to use upmystreet, and yes, it's dodgy!!! Failsworth has double the crime rate in general than the rest of the country.
Failsworth: http://www.upmystreet.com/local/crime-in-m35.html
Seriously, if this is now what we are suggesting for average wage couples with no kids to be able to earn that much, and to live in areas with those crime figures, then I'm sorry, I disagree totally with this thought path.
Eccles is average, Beswick under average (if I have the right place, comes up with a YO postcode?). But as you can see, the houses get more restrictive in your posts due to the better areas.0 -

btw - I think Cleaver posted some pretty sensible stuff... as usual. But I also think he sees it from his perspective, as indeed we all see it from ours. The small argument I would make back to him (now he's gone off to dinner / whatever) is that if the average person can afford the average property how come there are apparently a million unsold properties on Rightmove and prices are forecast to keep on falling?0 -
Now there's a thing. The boat goes both ways. Missing the boat used to be the preserve of the bulls, maybe it's now headed in a different direction.

That would be something to do with the demand for properties outweighing supply

I think there is a very evident divide between north and south. I would like to think I'm quite worldy wise but the prices of housing anywhere south of Milton Keynes always make my jaw drop and I can never work out why more people don't just move oop north.
.............because it's colder and rains a lot more.
Everyones eats a lot of carbs too...eugh. * Said in style of receptionist on Ugly Betty*.
Many years ago in the olden days before the internet, you could only check out houses elsewhere by reading Sunday papers or actually going there and looking in EA's windows.
I remember a whole castle (and it was huge too) in the middle of nowhere about 2 hours from Glasgow on sale for the same price as our derelict, 2 bed Viccy cottage in not so great area of London.
Must have been even colder up there too...0 -

For the love of Allah the temperature differences between Glasgow and London are minimal. :rolleyes:0 -

Best not frighten those bulls. :rotfl:0 -
That graph usually shuts bulls up. Just need to work out how to make it smaller so it doesn't screw the thread up. :rolleyes:0
