I am currently semi retired. I am very interested in computers and would like to get a qualification. I want to build, maintain and repair. What I am looking for is I think something called A+ but maybe you guys might know. If all went well with that, I would then like to take it further as my interest is in computer security.
What might you folks suggest. I can give up at least 10 hours a week to study.

I have just done this course, well i finished it in Febuary and it started in September. The course was on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6pm till 9pm. It was run by my local college. The only thing i found dissapointing was that the course was advertised as the Comptia A+ but the qualification was only Comptia IT Essentials. To get the A+ we had to take another test not ran by the college at our expense.

Did you enjoy the course? I am intending to do it from home and I can get the course fees against tax as I do need to use my computer a lot in my line of work.0

I had already done this before, but i went travelling for a couple of years so it was just a refresher for me.
This i believe is the best, first qualification you can get if your looking at building, maintaining and repairing and is the stepping stone into the IT industry. Most people getting into IT would do this course then progress into their chosen specialist area.0 -
My idea is to maybe make a bit of pocket money by doing cheap work aimed at older people like myself and although I do a bit of free stuff for mates I want to make sure that I know what I am doing if I intend to charge a bit.0
